Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek

Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is considered one of the best ways to get indulged in Annapurna region in a short and comparatively easier way than any other treks in this region. The short trek provides trekkers with amazing view of the entire Annapurna Range along with the mighty Dhaulagiri range. The scenic sunrise/sunset view from Poonhill is the major highlight of this trek. The trek also allows you to encounter the traditional villages of the Gurung community andlearn more about their culture, tradition and food. The lush and dense rhododendron forest along the trial adds up more adventure to the trek. The major mountains observed during this trek are Annapurna I (8091m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchre (6993m), Huinchuli (6441m) etc.

Outline itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
  • Day 2: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 m)
  • Day 3: Drive to Nayapul (1070 m) & trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m)
  • Day 4: Trek to Ghorepani (2860 m)
  • Day 5: Early morning at 5 AM trek to Poonhill (3210 m) for sunrise view & back to Hotel. After breakfast trek to Tadapani (2630 m)
  • Day 6: Trek to Ghandruk (1940 m)
  • Day 7: Trek to Nayapul (1070 m) and drive back to Pokhara
  • Day 8: Drive back to Kathmandu
  • Day 9: Final Departure

Trip Itinerary

    Day

    Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

    Upon arrival, you will be received by a representative from Random Adventures at the Tribhuwan International Airport and transferred to your Hotel. If you rarrival schedule allows, you will have free time to walk around Thamel.

    Day

    Day 02: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 m)

    We will be heading to Pokhara by drive which will take around 5-6 hours (200km). We will be following the Prithivi highway along side of the Trisuli River. One can observe scenic views during the drive including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Lunch spot will be on the way to Pokhara.
    Pokhara is one of the most beautiful cities of the whole nation. In the lap of Annapurna Himalayas and the iconic Machapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail), that reflects upon the water of the infamous Phewa Lake, this city truly exists to provide an awesome and lifetime experience.

    Day

    Day 03: Drive to Nayapul (1070 m) & trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m)

    We will have an early morning drive to Nayapul from where our trekking starts, it will take around 1-1.5 hours to get there (42km). The trek from here to Tikhedhunga takes about 4-5 hours. Along the trial we will pass villages like Birethanti and Hile. You can observe the natural beauties along with very authentic cultural lifestyle of the people in that place. The trail is shared by the pony caravans which are the primary way of transporting goods and material to the higher places.

    Day

    Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani (2860 m)

    After breakfast we will start our trek towards Ghorepani.We will pass through numerous suspension bridges and small villages along the way. After crossing the bridges the trial gets little bit steep till large magar village called Ulleri (2070m). During this climb Magnificent Annapurna South (7219m) and Mt. Fishtail (6997m) can be seen. This trial is filled with snow in winter season which add up more scenic views. It will take around 5-6 hours walk to reach Ghorepani form Tikhedhunga.

    Day

    Day 05: Early morning at 5 AM trek to Poonhill (3210 m) for sunrise view & back to Hotel. After breakfast trek to Tadapani (2630 m)

    The sunrise seen from Poonhill is breathtaking so we hike up to the top (3210m) around 1.5 hours early in the morning to observe the sunrise. On a clear day one can observe mountains like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The sunrise is very spectacular and mesmerizing. The Mount Fishtail along with other mountains shines and sparkles as the sunlight rays hits it. After viewing the sunrise we hike back to Ghorepani for breakfast and get ready for our next destination Tadapani.Tadapani (2630m) is the main stopping point for trekkers between Ghorepani and Chhomrong. The trek starts with a short climb till Deurali. The trial passes through pine forest with occasional view of Annapurna South. The trial will then lower down till we reach Banthati and then to Ghorepani.
    This takes around 5 hours to reach Tadapani. Overnight at a teahouse lodge in Tadapani.

    Day 06: Trek to Ghandruk (1940 m)

    Ghandruk is a beautiful Gurung village located in the Annapurna region. From here you can see Annapurna south, Himchuli and Machapuchhre. This place is very rich in Gurung culture and tradition. It only takes 3 hours to get here from Tadapani.

    Day

    Day 07: Trek to Nayapul (1070 m) and drive back to Pokhara

    We will be returning to Nayapul (about 3 -4 hours walk) where our vehicles will be waiting for us. Then we drive to Pokhara and will be staying at Pokhara that night.

    Day 08: Drive back to Kathmandu

    We can either drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

    Day 09: Departure

    As per your flight schedule, a representative from Random Adventures will drop you to the Tribhuwan International Airport from where you will travel to your further destination.
