Kathmandu Valley and Lumbini Tour

Kathmandu Valley and Lumbini Tour is a uniquely designed self-seeking tour that takes you through various temples and monasteries in Kathmandu and historical and cultural aspects Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha and the originating point of Buddhism. In the initial phase of this tour you will get to experience the marvelous wonders of the ancient city of Kathmandu, The City of Temples. You will visit various temples, stupas and monasteries. You will get to visit the Durbar Squares, famous Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Buddhist pilgrims of Bauddhanath Stupa and Swambhunath.

The main attractions here at Lumbini are the Sacred Garden, the Maya Devi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar which was set up by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC to memorialize his journey to this sacred site and the sacred pond-Puskarni where queen Maya Devi gave birth to Lord Buddha.

Lumbini is situated about 350 km south west of Kathmandu. It was a beautiful garden during the rule of Shakya dyanasty in southwest Nepal. This place is famous because Lord Buddha was born here in 560 B.C. The birth of Buddha at Lumbini has been recorded in the pillar inspiration ( Bhagawan Jateti Lummini game”. The pilgrimage of Ashoka to Lumbini has also been recorded in a stone pillar 300-325 BC. As a Chinese traveler Wen Seg- tsai, visited this place 300-325 AD he found there the Nativity (Ashoka) tree, a statue of lapis lazuli depicting Buddha’s Nativity scene and the marks of seven footsteps of the Buddha, enclosed and covered by lapis lazuli slabs. The monuments unearthed from these excavations are the temple of Mayadevi, (Mother of Buddha), the Ashoka pillar with its 9m-sandstone shaft having five-line inspiration, the bell capital and many things of religious and historical importance. Mayadevi Temple
The temple of Mayadevi, the mother of Buddha is located close to the Ashoka pillar. The statue of Mayadevi is made out of the stone which is believed to be 2000 years old. People worship Mayadevi as well as Rupadevi.
Puskar Pond
To the south of Mayadevi temple lies Puskar pond where Mayadevi took bath before giving birth to Buddha took his purifying bath in the same pond.
Lumbini Garden
The whole area of Lumbini is considered as a garden. Many monasteries have been built through the help of different countries like Thailand, Srilanka, and Japan. The whole area of Lumbini Garden is going to be converted in to the international Center for Buddhist pilgrimage and studies. Professor kenzo Tange, a Japanese architect, developed the master plan of Lumbini.

    Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel:

    On your arrival in the Kathmandu airport (TIA) you will be greeted by a representative from Random Adventures, after completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our rep with an Random Adventures display board at the arrival gate, you will be then transferred to your hotel. After check in, you can take a rest, go for a stroll down the road & get familiar with your surroundings - it all depends upon your interests and how good you feel after all the jetlag and overnight at hotel.

    Day 02: Full day sightseeing of Kathmandu valley:

    After having breakfast at hotel, today we pay our visit to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and an important Buddhist pilgrimage site, the unique octagonal Mandala design with hundreds of prayer wheels and the 108 images of the Buddha set into the niches around the huge structure, The area of Boudhanath is also famous for over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries, & also known as the 'Little Tibet', the Kapan Monastery at Kapan Hill, a few kilometers higher north from Boudhanath is also known as Nepal Buddhist Mahayan Centre, Kapan Monastery follows Gelug tradition of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism under the guidance of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, there is also a nunnery nearby the main monastery, known as the Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery, home to about 400 nuns, return to hotel and overnight at Kathmandu.

    Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Lumbini:

    After having breakfast at lodge, we drive to Lumbini today, to south-west from Kathmandu which takes about 7-8 hours, we say adieu to the ancient valley, and head toward the flatlands of Nepal's teeming Terai, Generally, the weather gets hot and humid in the plains except in the winter. Perhaps, Lumbini is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site - the place where Buddha was born. In case we reach Lumbini around sunset time, we can stroll around in the local market to have a glimpse of local lifestyles hereabouts and overnight at Lumbini.

    Day 04: Full day sightseeing tour in Lumbini:

    After having breakfast at hotel, we take you for the full day tour in Lumbini and the Lumbini is one of the world's major religious, architectural, and historical sites. We devote our time today in visiting as many places and sites in Lumbini as possible. The place is really a big area with monuments, temples, and ancients sites making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. First we visit the Mayadevi temple which is built on the exact place where Buddha was born. We spend some time wandering around the gardens, some of the important landmarks and monuments in Lumbini include: Ashoka's Pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka (249 BC) on the spot of Buddha's birth which also has the oldest inscription in Nepal. There are many Buddhist Temples founded by the devotees from different countries: they include Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese and Burmese, Korean, etc. and overnight at hotel.

    Day 05: Lumbini to Kathmandu:

    After breakfast, you have free time to see around and drive the same road back to Kathmandu and overnight at hotel. (Flight options are available)
